The Coalition Against Bigger Trucks released a poll Monday showing that 79 percent of Americans oppose putting longer and heavier trucks on roads and highways, primarily due to concerns about safety.

The survey itself gave them all the reasons they needed to oppose longer double-trailer trucks, including longer stopping distances and 47 to 400 percent higher crash rates. Seventy percent of respondents also said heavier trucks should pay the full costs of the damage they cause to roads and bridges.
