Katie McGinty has surged ahead of Joe Sestak, according to a new poll, as Pennsylvania Democrats enter voting booths Tuesday to settle the contentious U.S. Senate primary race.

Katie McGinty has surged ahead of Joe Sestak, according to a new poll, as Pennsylvania Democrats enter voting booths Tuesday to settle the contentious U.S. Senate primary race.

Harrisburg-based Harper Polling’s latest Democratic survey released Monday shows McGinty, a former secretary of the state Department of Environmental Protection and former chief of staff to Gov. Tom Wolf, with 39 percent support followed by Sestak, a former U.S. House member and retired admiral, with 33 percent, Braddock Mayor John Fetterman with 15 percent and Robinson Township spring manufacturer owner Joe Vodvarka with 3 percent and 11 percent undecided.

Harper said McGinty leads in most regions across the state, although in the Pittsburgh/southwest Pennsylvania region Fetterman has 32 percent compared to 31 percent for her and 26 percent for Sestak.
