The poll underscores the competitive nature of the 2nd District in southern Arizona, which includes Sierra Vista and parts of Tucson. The past two elections have been decided after razor-thin recounts.

The poll was commissioned by the National Republican Congressional Committee, the arm of the party that supports McSally in her bid for re-election.

When matched against the declared Democratic candidates, McSally led state Rep. Victoria Steele 47 percent to 40 percent and was ahead of physician Matt Heinz 48 percent to 40 percent. McSally also had a 55 percent favorability rating.
