A new poll paid for by the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association shows public opinion of local police officers in the state is "overwhelmingly positive."

A new poll paid for by the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association shows public opinion of local police officers in the state is "overwhelmingly positive."

The survey was conducted on June 15 and 16 by Harper Polling, questioning 450 registered voters in Minnesota via telephone.

According to the survey data, 55 percent of respondents said those events altered their perception of local law enforcement "not at all," 24 percent said "very little," 14 percent said "somewhat," and 5 percent answered "a great deal."

All told, the respondents gave local police a 90 percent approval rating, and 91 percent rated the safety of the area where they live as excellent or good.
